Zambia Flag - History, Facts & information for kids
Northern Rhodesia fought for independence under the leadership of the United National Independence Party (UNIP). Northern Rhodesia became the Republic of Zambia on October 24, 1964 with Kenneth Kaunda as the first president. Its new national flag was designed by Mrs Gabriel Ellison using the UNIP flag as a model. In 1996, the shade of green was made lighter and brighter.
